Habe ich eigentlich zufällig eine Person, die ein ThinkPad L13 Yoga besitzt, in der Timeline?

If you want the Linux-circa-2004 experience back, just try Linux on ARM!

* everything compiles slowly
* distro-hopping to find better hardware support
* oops, you need proprietary drivers for that
* forum posts hold the authoritative documentation *and* code for your distro

Hahaha oh no. I had to restart my compositor, which apparently made my status bar freeze, so I've been assuming it's 1:30am for the last two hours. This explains a lot.

A word of advice to all the new sysops out there:

Under any circumstances

Use a hardware RAID card.

ALWAYS do it in software.

@sir @abyxcos I agree on the proprietrary argument but Hardware RAIDs are usually much faster on write thanks to battery-backed cache (sadly, battery backed system memory isn't really a thing ^^).
What works very well though is single disk RAID0 for all HDDs and ZFS on top. It's defintely not a recommended setup but its fast (as the write cache is active) and data recovery is easy when the RAId controller fails

TFW someone emails me about a piece of software I wrote 18 years ago, which as been unmaintained for 15+ years, asking about my plans for it, and getting upset at the thought of not having any.

The untolds joys of #floss #maintenance, heh.

Switching to a non-systemd system when you've gotten used to the convenience of .service and .timer files is really no fun at all. I'm sure there is a lot of stupid shit in the giant bundle that is systemd, but service files make administrating systems *way* more understandable and accessible.
